Revolutionary War Widow Pension Application of Rebecca Fulford

David feels that Rebecca made an application for pension (the first below) and that shortly afterwards, the law was changed and she made a second application (the second below), possibly to obtain more money.


		Declaration
In order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress of the 7th of July 
1838, entitled "An act granting half pay pensions to certain widows".
State of North Carolina}
        Carteret County}
	On this 5th day of Novr. 1842, Personally appeared before the 
Subscriber one of the Justices of the Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions for 
Carteret County, Rebecca Fulford a resident of said County aged 73 years, 
who having first duly sworn according to law doth upon her oath, make the 
following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress 
of the 7th July 1838, entitled "An act granting half pay pensions to certain 
widows".  That she is the widow of James Fulford who was a pensioner as a 
Soldier of the Revolutionary War and who resided in the County of Carteret.  
She further declares she was married to the said James Fulford in the month 
of April 1785. That her husband the aforesaid James Fulford died on the 13th 
August 1839 - That she was not married to him prior to his leaving the 
service but the marriage took place prior to the 1st January seventeen 
hundred and ninety four, viz at the time above stated. She further declares 
she has no family record of her marriage -

Declaration
In order to obtain the benefits of the act of Congress of the 3rd of march of 1843 granting pensions for one year to certain widows who have received pensions under the act of July 7th 1838-

      Carteret County}
On this 23rd day of September 1843 personally appeared before the -------one of the -------of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions in and for the County aforesaid Mrs. Rebecca Fulford, a resident of said county aged Seventy four years who being duley sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the provision made by the act of Congress dated the third of Mrch 1843 granting pensions to widows of persons who served during the Revolutionary War.
That this is the widow of James Fulford who was a private in the War of the Revolution and who died on the 13th of August 1839 that this is the widow of the aforesaid James Fulford who received a pension of Eighty Dollars per annum up to the 4th of March 1841 which pension has been allowed her under the act of the 7th July 1838 and she furthur declares that she is still a widow

      Carteret County} I David Rumley, Clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for the County of Carteret do hereby certify that Zacharias Pigott whose own proper signature is affixed to the annexed Cirtificates, is now and was at the time of signing the aforesaid Certificates, acting Justice of the court of Pleas and Quarter Seassions for said County and that he is duly qualified and Compensated as such, and that full faith and credit are due and to be given to his acts as such.
      Given under my hand and seal of office in Beauford in said County this 27th day of March A.D. 1843
