1688-1690	Joseph Fulford, youngest son of John Fulford Sr., was born.  (CR, VIII, p. 329)

Early 1700's	John Fulford was one of the early settlers in the Neuse River-Pamlico Sound area.  (Heritage of Craven
			County, Vol. I, 1984, p. 2) 

April 15, 1704	"Jon Fulford of the Precinct of Currituck in the County of Albemarle" bought 500 acres of land "beginning on the
			lower side of a creek below Richard Smith in Pamtico commonly known by the name of Deep Creek"
 			for 45 pounds from Farnifold Green and his wife Hannah of New River in the County of Bath.  (Beaufort
 			County Deed Book 1, part 1, p. 54)

1705			Joseph Fulford took up residence in the Province of North Carolina (CR VIII, p. 329) 

Sept. 8, 1705	John Fulford borrowed money from Thomas Snoden (see below).

Nov. 30, 1705	"Jno. Fulford" was summoned to appear before the General Court in "Litle River" to "Give Evidence in a
			Cause . . . between Tho. Peterson Attorney of Michajah Perry and New pennsilvania Company plantiff
			and Richd. Smyth defendant . . . ."  (Price, NC Higher-Court Records, Vol. IV)

Feb. 10, 1706	"Jno Fulford and his wife Dorothy of Pamptico in the coun. of Bath" sold Wm. John Clark the land he acquired
			from Green in 1704.  (Beaufort Co. DB 1, pt. 1, p. 73)

Mar. - May 1706	"William Swann by Thomas Snoden his Attorney comes to prosecute his Sute against John Fulford
			Defendant in a plea of Debt and Sayes that the Defendant Stands justly indebted to the plaintiff in the
			Full and just Summ of Twenty Three pounds Four Shillings and Eleven pence as in and by a Certaine
			Writeing by his proper hand bearing the Date the 8th Day of September 1705 and here in Court etc.
			the Defendant came not and upon Motion of the Plaintiff Ordered that the Marshall have here the body
			of the Said John Fulford the next Court . . . ."  (Price, NC Higher-Court Records, Vol. IV, p. 259)   

June 15, 1706	John Fulford again failed to show up in court and was fined "forty Six pounds Nine Shillings tenn pence

July Court 1706	"Swann Assignee etc versus Fulford in Debt.  Executed."  (ibid., p. 269) 

Oct. Court 1706	Jno. Fulford once again failed to answer the summons to appear in higher court to the suit of Wm. Swann Esqr.
			and "the plaintiff prayes Judgement upon the aforesaid order against the Marshall and the Court
			haveing Considerd the Matter duely Ordered Captain Wm. Barrow provost Marshall of the County of
			Bath pay unto the said Wm. Swann the aforesaid Summe of Twenty Three pounds Four Shilling and
			Eleven pence with Costs alias Execution.  And Capt. Wm. Barrow Comes and prayes Attachment

Oct. Court 1706	"Wm. Swann Esqr. Assignee for Edwd. Taylor Comes to prosecute his Suite against Jno. Fulford in a plea of
			debt . . . and declares two pounds Fifteen Shilling by Bill under hand, and the defendant Came not . . . .
			Ordered that Captain Wm. Barrow . . . pay . . . aforesaid Summe . . . with Costs . . . . and the said Wm.
			Barrow 	Comes and prayes an Attachment against the said Fulfords Estate . . . ."  (Price, NC Higher-

1707/1708	John Fulford held land patent for 520 acres on the Pamplico River adjoining Peter Wordin, a small
			pocosin, and James Hogg.  (Patent Book One, #733, p. 252). 

ca. 1710	Joseph Fulford owned land in Carteret Precinct.  (Patent Book Two, #1258, p. 309).

ca. 1711	John Fulford was a commercial fisherman in the Core Sound area by 1711.  (Kell, p. 104) 

July Court 1711	"The Honorable Nathaniell Chevin Esqr. Attorney of Margt. Tench comes and prosecutes his Suit against
			John fullford in a plea of Debt . . . of Eighteen pounds fifteen Shillings and two pence (to be paid in
			pamplico River as by his Obligation under his hand and Seal the twelfth of March 1706/7 appears)
			and the Said John Fullford was Called but appeard not . . . moved that Capt. Emanl. Cleavs Should
			have the Body of the said John Fullford at the next General Court otherwise Judgement to pass
			against him as provist Marshall . . . ." (Price, NC Higher-Court Records, Vol. V, pp. 10-11)

1711-12		John Fulford mentioned in connection with troubles associated with the Indian War and also signed a
			petition for a court for "ye inhabitants of Neuse River."

Jan. 21, 1712	Will of John Fulford:  
			Know all men by these presents yt: I John ffulford of ye: Cou_ of Bath and In ye: prect: of Craven and In
			Coresound out of __e & affection I have to My well be Loved Sonn Jos: ffull__ being My youngest

			Creditable Oathes? yt. he hath Kept and Maintained, one John Hogg an orphan Son to Edwd. Hogg
			Deseased and it is ordrd. yt. ye. sd.  John ffulfoord keep and Sufficiantly maintains ye. afsd. orphant_
			till he attains to ye. age of Twenty one years and it is further ordrd. yt. ye. afsd.  Jo. ffullfoord shall
			Teach or cause to be taught ye. afsd. orphan to read ye Bible Distinkly by ye.  Expiration of ye. afsd.
			Term orderd.  it be Recorded & it is recorded.

			"John ffulfoord obledges himself to teach ye. sd. orphant tead ye. bible Distinklys to give ye. a Cow
			Calfe when ye, orphant comes to fifteen years old and take care of ye. Increases untill he comes to

 			"John ffulfoord, Senr" was one of four men named to appraise the estate of "Petter Worden."

Feb 22, 1713/14George Bell granted land "in Newport Sound in ye Straights" adjoining John Fulford (Patent Book
			Two, #1520, p. 388).

Apr. 2, 1714	Joseph Fulford granted 180 acres "in ye straights in Core Sound, joining ye mouth of Daws Creek, a small gut,
			George Bell, ye woods, and ye side of a savanna."  (Patent Book Two, #1496, p. 382)

June 18, 1714	Bath County:  Joseph Fulford witnessed the will of Francis Thoragood, planter (proved April 1716).	(Craven Ct.
			Min., Bradley, Vol. IV)

July Court 1716	Craven County:  "Then came Wm. Handcock Junr plt and prosecuted his suite against John ffulfoord deft ye
			___ being calld. but made noe apearance on ordr. ___ agt. ye Estate of ye sd Jo. fful___ ___ pounds 4
			pence ordr. yt. Jo. ffulfoord __ als Exn." 

1719 			"A True List of ye Tythables_and also ye Rent Roull Taken in craven Pct. ffor ye Year: 1719" showed
			Jon ffullford with 160 acres and no tythables and Joseph ffullford with 300 acres and one tythable. 
			(Note:  This may have been John Fulford Jr.)    

Nov. 11, 1719	John Gerrard granted land "in Core Sound on ye west side of Nelsons Creek, joining ye Mouth of a Gut,
			James Dauge, Joseph Fulford, another gut from the head of the mouth, and the main Creek."  (Patent
			Book One, #889, p. 293)

Nov. 11, 1719	Joseph Fulford granted "130 acres in Core Sound on ye west side of Nelsons Creek, joining a gut side, Jesse
			Dauge, and a percosan." (Patent Book One, #891, p. 293)

1719			Joseph P. Fulford was granted land in Hunting Quarters (Deed Book D, p. 109).

Dec. 18, 1719	"Jo. Fulford off Bath County Carterett Princt" was granted land by the Lords Proprietors "lying on Coarsound in
			ye west side off Nelsons creek" for 2£ 12s (D 135). 
	
July 1721	"Pet. Fomvill Administrator of Rt. Fomvill Plaintiff and Josph. Fullford Defendant":  A statement was
			taken from a witness named Thos. Harding, who said that Wm. Meads had told him that when he
			(Meads) was in passage from South Carolina with Peter Fomvill the latter died and he buryed him,
			taking his possessions, 	which included an Indian boy.  Meads said that he took the boy to Core
			Sound in North Carolina and sold him to Wm. Stone because he "thought himself had the most Right
			to what the said Fomvill had Left."  He further said the "Petr Fomvill was going to North Carolina to See
			his brother Jno. Fomvill."  (Price, NC Higher-Court Records, Vol. V, p. 247)

Mar. Court 1722	Joseph Fulford, "planter of Core Sound," was named in a dispute of the ownership of a slave:  "Fomvile v. 			Fullford.  "John Fomvile Administrator of Peter Fomvile deceased . . . to prosecute his Suite aforesaid
			against Joseph Fullford of Core Sound Planter in a plea of Tresspass on the Case Sur Trover and
			Conversation for One Indian Male Slave named Harry of the age of Sixteen Years ot thereabouts of
			the price of Sixty Pounds Sterling money of great Britain which Said Slave he declares to have been
			part of the proper Estate of the said Peter . . . . And the Defendante [torn] his Attorney appeared and
			pleaded not Guilty . . . ."   (Price, NC Higher-Court Records, Vol. V, p. 263)

Oct. Court 1722	"Fomvill etc. v. Fullford.  On Motion of the plaintiffe's Attorney of the said Joseph Fullford in Court confess't that
			the said John Fomvill demanded the Indian Slave now in dispute before Action was brought and that
			he refus'd to deliver him."  (Price, NC Higher-Court Records, Vol. V, p. 322) 

1723			Joseph Fulford was appointed a Vestryman of St. John's Parrish in Beaufort as a part of an "An Act,
			for incorporating the Seaport in Beaufort . . . ." passed by the General Assembly in 1723.  (SR XXV, p.
			209)

June Court 1724	Joseph Fuford was named a juror for the June term of the Carteret County Inferior Court of Pleas and
			Quarter Sessions.  He also filed suit against Robert Atkins during the same session.

Mar. Crt. 1724/5The Court named as overseer of the road:  "Capt Enoch Ward in the east side of the North River down to
			Fulfords and Jarrotts, and to the place where John Roads formerly lived and from there to
			Shewbridges Creek and then up the river to William Johnsons Creek."

July Court 1725	John Fulford was called as a petit juror by the General Court of North Carolina but did not show up.  Marshall
			Henry Macdaniell reported that "he is not to be found."  (Price, NC Higher-Court Records, Vol. VI, p.
			113) 

Mar. Crt. 1727/8Ditto:  ". . . Overseers of Highways viz: on the east side of North River Mr Joseph Fulford."

Mar. Court 1728	Joseph Fulford vs Nickolas Hunter - Dismissed

Oct. 28, 1728	Joseph "Fullford" was named as a legatee in the "Carteret Precinct Bath County"  will of Joseph Crossot, who
			died the next day (nuncupative will proved Dec. 3, 1728).  He was left "certain cattle."  (Bradley, Early
			Records of NC, Vol. V)

Mar. 3, 1728/29	Indenture deed between "Joseph Fulford off ye Precinct of Carteret in ye County of Bath & in ye Province off
			No. Carolyna " and Nicholass Hunter for 150 pounds "good & lawfull mony off this Province" for 640
			acres on the east side of Whiteoak River.  Witnessed by Eben Dexter, Jos. Chadwick, and Abram
			Mitchell.  (D, p. 15)

Sept. Court 1729Joseph Fulford acknowledged a deed for six hundred and forty acres of land unto Nicholas Hunter
			 and ordered to be recorded.

Mar. 6, 1732/3	Joseph Fulford planter deed to "Js Bell Esqr" for "125 pounds tenn shillings currat money off No Carolyna"
 			"140 acres more or less in Newport Sound in ye straits" adjoining Ross Bell's house.  (D 125) 

1732			Joseph Fulford bought land on the Straits joining John Fulford (D 80).

Mar. 11, 1740/1	Joseph Fulford granted 450 acres at "head of Fulfords Creek in the Straights." (Haun, 1996, p. 3; Patent Book
			5, #2431, p. 129; Colonial Records IV, p. 588, says 400 ac.; N. C. Higher-Court Records, Vol. VIII, p. 115,
			says 400 ac.: Hoffmann says 350 ac.)  
			Note: Orig. patent dated 11 Mar. 1740 states 350 ac. "At the head of Fulford Creek"  (Patent Book B, p.
			170) - - Looks like two patents. 

Dec. Court 1741	"Joseph Fulford Jr came into open court and made oath that he did see Thomas Harris sign and
			deliver a deed unto Solomon Chadwick . . . ."
 
June 9,1743	Joseph Fulford Senr deeded to each to his two sons Joseph and William "for natural love and
			affection and one shilling sterling" 175 acres of the March 1740 land grant (D 315)

June Court 1743	"Joseph Fulford came in open court and acknowledged a deed unto his two sons Joseph and 
			William, for three hundred and fifty acres of land in the Straights in Carteret County, that is to say, one
			hundred and seventy five acres to each of them and by this court ordered to be recorded."

July 2, 1746	Jos. Fulford Sr. and Jos. Fulford Jr. were mentioned in the inventory of the estate of Hope Dexter of Onslow Co.  			(Bradley, Vols. II and III)

Sept. Court 1746Joseph Fulford Sr. and Joseph Fulford Jr. were ordered to appraise the estate of Joseph Bell decd.

Aug. 26, 1747	Private Joseph Fulford, Jun. was on duty in Beaufort when the town was attacked by the Spanish.  He was
			credited for six days in August and two days in September. (CR XXII, p. 263, 267)		

ca. 1748		John Fulford, son of Joseph Fulford Jr., married Abigail Williston, daughter of John Williston Sr.  Their 		children were:  Joseph Fulford; Alice Fulford, m: Ichabod Harris; Charlotte Fulford, m: Elijah Pigott; Serepta 
		(Serepsedy) Fulford, m: Levi Pigott; Sarah Fulford, m. 1st  Amnon Gillikin and 2nd  to Levi Bell; Polly 
		Fulford, 	m: Josiah Willis; Abigail Fulford, m. Ambrose Jones; and William Martin Fulford.  She was 
		previously married to a "Ventros" (or "Fentress").  (Kith and Kin; Wills of Abigail Fulford, 1823 and John
 		Williston, Sr., 1775)

Jun. 13, 1748	Arthur Mabson "merchant of Carteret County" named two slaves, "boy Bristoll, girl Bell," that he bought from
			Joseph Fulford in his will (pr. March 1748). (Bradley, Vol. VI)

Sept. Court 1748Joseph Fulford Sr acknowledged a deed unto his son Joseph for 90 acres of land in this county and said land
			lying in the Straits and ordered to be registered.

Dec. Court 1748Joseph Fulford was one of three candidates nominated by the court for sheriff.

Dec. Court 1749Mary Fulford witnessed a deed between George Bell Jr. and John Hill for land on Core Banks.

Mar. Court 1753	Mr Joseph Fulford made oath that he attended 12 days at September General Court Last and that he had a
			certificate for the same and that he carelessly lost the same and allowed.

Sept. Court 1753"Joseph Fulford Jr Esq, George Bell, Sr is appointed commissioner for the roads on the no. east side of North
			River."

Dec. 4, 1753	The Carteret County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions convened in Beaufort Town "before His Majesties
			Justices Thomas Lovick, Moses Houston and Joseph Fulford."

Dec. 8, 1754	James Fulford was listed as one of the 70 men of "the Company of the North Shore, Belong (sic) to Capt'n
			John Shine's District from the Head of Broad Creek Down to the Mouth of the River" in Craven County. 
			This may not have been James Fulford from Carteret.  (SR XXII, p. 315) 

1754 - 55	Militia Returns 1754 - 1755:  "Carteret Foot . . . Capt'n Joseph Fulford (and) Will: Fulford (under command of)
			Coll. Tho: Lovick."  (State Records, XXII, p. 307)   Note: William Fulford was listed as an ensign in the
			original muster roll.

1755-60		North Carolina Militia returns for Carteret County listed "Joseph Fulford, Captain" and "William Fulford,
			Ensign" serving under "Thomas Lovick, Colonel."  (Clark, p. 631)

Sept. Court 1756The petition of Joseph Fulford Sr read in his words. And order that the Clerk send a certificate to the assembly
			to excuse him from all public levies.

Sept. Court 1756Ordered that Edward Fuller, Joseph Fulford Esq, Cornelius Canaday be recommended to the Governor for
			him to appoint and commission one of them to be Sheriff for the County.

Sept. Court 1756Joseph Fulford Esq, produced a commission from His Excellency the Governor therein appointing him Sheriff
			of this County which was read. He qualified agreeable to law.

June 15, 1757	Deed from "Joseph Fulford the Older" to William Fulford for 280 acres of land in "Newport on the Straits."  Land
			obtained from Joseph Bell Esq., who held the original patent.  Proved Sept. Court 1757. (Book F, p.
			446)

Sept. Court 1757A deed of sale or gift for 140 acres of land from Joseph Fulford Sr to William Fulford was proved in open court
			by the oath of Valentine Wade Esq and ordered to be registered.

June Court 1758A deed of sale from Joseph Fulford, High Sheriff of the County of Carteret to Richard Turner for 300 acres of
			land in Carteret County was acknowledged in open court and ordered to be registered.

June 10, 1758	Joseph Fulford Jr. was administrator of the William White estate.  He proved the inventory at the June Court
			1759).  (Bradley, Vols. II and III)

Sept. Court 1758William Fulford is appointed constable in the room of Nathan Yeomans.

Nov. 27, 1758	Report of the Committee of Public Claims held at Edenton:  "Mr. Joseph Fulford Late Sheriff of Carteret County
			was allow'd his Claim of ten pounds Proclamation Money as his Salary for the year 1756 he having
			fully Accounted with the Treasurer & paid all the taxes for that year."  (Col. Rec. V, p. 976)

Mar. Court 1759	The three following persons to wit: Joseph Fulford, George Gibbons and Valentine Wade Esqs  was
			nominated by this court to be recommended to His Excellency For one to be appointed Sheriff for the
			ensuing year.

Mar. Court 1759	Joseph Fulford Esq, came into court and prayed letters of administration on the estate of William White decd
			and granted, he complying with the act of assembly in that case made and provided.  (Note:  William
			White owned land on the "North side of Newport River" in Mar. 1752 and was "of Perquimmons County
			in Sept. 1753). 

Mar. Court 1759	Joseph Fulford Esq, came into court and prayed a licence for to keep an ordinary at his now dwelling house at
			the mouth of the Straights and granted, he complying with the act of assembly in that case made and
			provided.

Mar. 22, 1759	The estate of James Fulford decd. was sold at public venue in Craven County.  "Furnefold" Green and John
			Nelson were amoung the buyers, which did not include any Fulfords.  (Bradley, Vol. III) 

June Court 1759An inventory of the estate of Thomas (sic) White Decd was exhibited in Court and proved by Joseph Fulford,
			administrator and ordered to be registered.

July 1760	Benjamin Fulford is born.  Died Sept. 23, 1822, "ae 62 yr 2 mo."  Buried in the Fulford Cemetery, Sleepy Creek,
			Gloucester, N.C.  

1760-63		Militia returns for Carteret County listed "Joseph Fulford, Major" serving under "Joseph Bell, Colonel."

17??		"Return of Officers of the North carolina Militia, Carteret Regiment" (undated) listed "Lieut. Col., Fulford,
			Joseph" second in command to Col. Joseph Bell. (Clark, p. 788)

Mar. Court 1761	The court allows Thomas Bell Esq to qualify William Fulford a Constable from the Head of North River to the
			Oyster Creek.

Mar. Court 1761	The Court orders that Joseph Fulford, High Sheriff of Carteret County do make out and settle his accounts of
			the County taxes for the year 1759. 

Mar. Court 1761	Joseph Fulford Esq, produced to this court a commission from His Excellency Arthur Dobbs Esq, Governor,
			thereby appointing his Sheriff for the County of Carteret for the ensuing year, he giving security as the
			law directs with John Backhouse and William Dennis.

May 1761	The Vestry Book of St. John's Parish: "Vestry appoints Mr. William Fulford to agree with reader to perform
			divine services at Straights."

June Court 1761Appoints William Fulford constable from Oyster Creek to the Head of North River and that he summons the
			inhabitants of his district to give in their list of taxables.

Jan. 30, 1762	Joseph Fulford witnessed the will of Elisha Bellknap joyner (sic) of Craven County (proved April 1762).  At the
			time Bellknap drafted the will, he/she was "dwelling at South River in the house of Mrs. Elizabeth
			Martin" (who was the grandmother of Prudence Fulford, see below, Mar. 1767).  Bellknap left
			"Landlady Elizabeth Martin all my estate."  (Bradley, Vol. III)   

Feb. Court 1762	Joseph Fulford Jr, late Sheriff, came into court and settled the list of tythables for the year one thousand seven
			hundred and fifty seven for four hundred and thirty one tythables exclusive of forty three delinquents.

Aug. 22, 1762	The Vestry Book of St. John's Parish: "Ordered that Capt. Joseph Fulford pay the inhabitants on the east side
			of North River on account of building the Chappell on the east side of North River." 

May Court 1762	William Fulford constable from the Oyster Creek to the head of North River and that he summons all masters,
			mistresses of families and overseers of negroes and all single men within his district to give in their list
			of tythables

May Court 1762	A deed of sale from John Shackelford of Carteret County to Joseph Fulford Jr for 230 acres of land on
			Shackelford Banks was proved in open court by the oath of James Shaw sr and ordered to be
			registered.

May Court 1762	William Fulford constable from the Oyster Creek to the head of North River and that he summons all masters,
			mistresses of families and overseers of negroes and all single men within his district to give in their list
			of tythables

May Court 1762	A deed of sale from John Shackelford of Carteret County to Joseph Fulford Jr for 230 acres of land on
			Shackelford Banks was proved in open court by the oath of James Shaw sr and ordered to be
			registered.

Nov. 15, 1762	Joseph Fulford Junior patented "640 acres in Carteret on the West side of North river, joining Thomas Bell, a
			Marsh on the North side of Rustulls Creek, and (a point) about Three Quarters of a Mile from the river
			nigh John Simpson, Senior.  (Patent Book 15, #6306, p. 448)

Nov. 9, 1764	Wm. Fulford, Wm. Dennis, and Joseph Morss Jr. patented "300 acres in Carteret on the W. side of North River,
			joining Joseph Morss Sr., Edward Fuller, a Savannah, and Shacklefords Creek."  (Patent Book 17,
			#7437, p. 114).  
			Note:  Orig. land grant 178, #394, B17, p. 114, says 250 ac., as does land grant 178, #445, B18, p. 103,
			both on "W. side of North River.".    

June 1766	Joseph Fulford was witness or administrator's bond security for the will of Caleb Davis of Carteret County
			(Abigail Davis, adm.)  (Bradley, Vol. I) 

Sept. 26, 1766	Joseph Fulford Junr. claimed 300 acres in Carteret.  Entered at April 1767 Court of Claims.  (Haun, 1996, p. 106)

Mar. 30, 1767	Elizabeth Martin, widow of South River in Craven County, named her granddaughter, Prudence Fulford, in her
			will (no probate date).

Apr. 25, 1767	Joseph Fulford Jr. patented "300 acres in Carteret on the W. side of North River, joining the N. side of the W.
			Branch Between Rustells and Fullards Lands and sd. river, joining the S, side of Counacks Island, the
			sd. river, and the mouth of the W. Branch."  (Patent Book 23, #5573, p. 24)

Dec. 19, 1770	"Mr Joseph Fulford, now upwards of eighty years" was exempted at a meeting of  the Assembly in New Bern
			"from payment of Public, Parochial, and County Taxes" . . . he has been a resident in the Province

Dec. 24, 1770	Joseph Fulford Jr. patented "100 acres in Carteret on the W. side of North River, joining the N. side of the
			Westermost branch of the river, Land Ambrose Jones purchased of Thomas Bell, the pocoson, the
			sd. Fulford, and the marsh and swamp." (Patent Book 20, #2758, p. 622)

Mar. 11, 1771	"At a Special Court of Oyer & Terminer and General Gaol (sic) Delivery began and held in Newbern . . . on
			Monday the eleventh Day of March A. D. 1771 . . . The Sheriff of Carteret County returned the following
			Persons for Grand and Petit Jurors":   Joseph Fulford, Zachariah Harker, James Harker, Elijah Pigott,
			George Bell, Ross Bell, Wm Thompson, Esqr, Robert Reed, Malachi Bell, John Whitehouse, William

May 4, 1771	Joseph Fulford Jr. was granted "600 acres in Carteret on the W. side of North River above Fulford's old survey
			and above Simpsons land, joining Simpsons line 13 poles distance from the river side." (Patent Book
			20, #1771, p. 471)

1772		Joseph Fulford (Jr.) lived on the W. side of N. River between Henry Chew, Wm. Coal, Thomas Rees, and
			Richard Caswell.  (Patent Book 22, #3681, p. 55).

1773		George Fulford filed a claim for Lot #20 NT in Beaufort Town.  (Town Old Minute Book, Kell, p. 145)

July 10, 1773	John Fulford planter and his wife Abigail sold Joseph Morse Junior for 15£ proclaimation money a parcel of
			land containing 150 acres on the West side of Nort river, below the westermost branch between
			Rustulls & Fullerd Lands & the river.  The land was one half of a parcel given to John by his father

			in at the Deced of my Wife all my Lands together with the Buildings thereon . . . one Negroe Wench

July 24, 1775	Abigail Fulford, daughter of John Williston Sr., was named in her father's will (proved March 1785).

1776-1789	Revolutionary War:
			James Fulford was a private and Stephen Fulford was a sergeant ("List of North Carolina
			Revolutionary Pensioners" by the Secretary of State, State Records, XXII, p. 66)
			Private James Fulford, b. in 1755, enlisted in Beaufort in May 1776 and served under Capt. Enoch
			Ward.  He applied for a pension in Sept. 1832 and died in Carteret Co. 13 Aug. 1839.  Married
			Rebecca Harker in Apr. 1785, had 7 children, but only his oldest child, William, b. 2 April 1786, was
			named.  Widow applied 5 Nov. 1842 at age 73 for benefits. (White, Gen. Abs. Rev. War Pen. Files,
			1991)  Private James Fulford Sergeant Stephen Fulford was listed by the Secretary of State as a
			North Carolina Revolutionary Pensioner in 1835 under "The Acts of 1818 and 1832."  (SR XXII, p. 55-
			92)  

			Stephen Fulford of Straits enlisted in Beaufort 12 Feb. 1749.  He was a sergeant in the regiment
			commanded by Col. Eason and served at Fort Hancock on Cape Lookout Bay.  He applied for
			pension 27 Dec. 1832 at age nearly 84.  Died 4 Feb. 1834.  Married Louisa 12 Mar. 1797.  Widow
			applied for benefits 3 Dec. 1849 at 83 (b. 16 Apr. 1766). (White)  Sergeant Stephen Fulford was listed
			by the Secretary of State as a North Carolina Revolutionary Pensioner in 1835 under "The Acts of
			1818 and 1832."  (SR XXII, p. 55-92)   Note that the return of the Carteret Regiment of the North Carolina
			Militia for Oct 5th 1781 under the command of John Easton Col. Showed Ensign Stephen Fulford
			service under Field officer Enoch Ward, Lt. Col. 

			John Fulford received a pension of $30 per annum from 4 Sept. 1793 until he died in 1807.  Served as
			a Sgt. in the "Invalid Corp. 10 Oct. 1789.  His papers were burned when the British burned Washington
			in 1814. (White) Note that a report from the Carteret County Regiment of the North Carolina Militia
			commanded by Lt. Col. Malachi Bell, 11 June 1779, "Ensign Jn. Fulford."

			Stephen  Fulford declared 90 acres + 200 acres, 2 slaves, 25 cattle, 6 horses, and 921 pounds in
				 Districts 3 and 4.  
			William Fulford declared 140 acres, 3 slaves, 19 cattle, 2 horses and 47 pounds in Districts 3 and 4.

March 11, 1779	Asa Fulford was born.  He was orphaned by age 7.  (Court Min., March 1786)

Mar. Court 1779	James Fulford exhibited into court the nuncupative will of Hannah Lowel, ordered that letters of administration
			issue on the same and at the same time James Fulford entered into bond in the sum of two hundred
			pounds with Joseph Fulford.

Dec. Court 1781Joseph Morse moved to this court for letters of administration on the estate of Joseph Morse Decd and
			granted. Entered into bond with Joseph Fulford and Charles Gillikin in the sum of one hundred
			thousand pounds currency.

Mar. Court 1782	Returned into court by John Fulford, the account of sales of George Robertson's estate to the amount of sixty
			one pounds six shillings and eight pence.  Exhibited into court the division of the estate of George
			Robertson Decd between the orphan of the said decd and the widow, by John Easton and Joseph
			Fulford Esq, which men was appointed to divide the same.

Mar. Court 1782	Thomas Chadwick, Joseph Fulford Sen And Enoch Ward appointed tax assors (sic) for District 3.

April 12, 1782	"Word was received that Captains Fulford and Foot with their men surprised a landing party [on Borden's
			Banks, now Bogue Banks] seeking water . . . killing and wounding a number in the party, and
			destroying their water casks.  They forced the vessels [a ship and a schooner] to slip their cables and
			withdraw . . . ."  (Kell, p. 26)

			(ac.), 1 s (tax) and Joseph Fulford, 340, 1 £ 5 s 8 p.  (Note:  Kell, p. 178, shows 340 ac. for James and
			450 ac. for Joseph, respectively, and 340 ac. for Stephen Fulford, all in the Beaufort Town District)

1784			Straits District:  Capt. Fulford was listed as owning 717 acres; Wm. Fulford, 265 acres; and Joseph
			Fulford, 1005 acres.  (Kell, p. 180) 

Sept. Court 1784John Fulford is appointed collector for the district of the Straits security Thomas Chadwick Esq in two
			thousand pounds specie.

Dec. Court 1784Ordered that Col Joseph Fulford Be scited to next Court and Abigail Davis, Administrator of Caleb David
			Decd, also Nathan and Joseph David to settle the accounts.

Mar. Court 1785	William Pigott made it appear on oath that he attended asa witness in the  suit Elijah Pigott against John
			Fulford for nine days.

			fifty acres be the same more or less, it being the northernmost half of a tract of three hundred acres
			granted to Joseph Fulford by a patent dated the 25th day of April in the year 1767 and the above one
			hundred and fifty acres was conveyed to the said John Fulford by a deed of sale from the said
			Joseph Fulford dated the 18th day of June 1770, and is bounded as follows, beginning at the
			beginning  corner of the said patent, a pine on the south side of the westernmost branch of the river
			running south 25 degrees east 240 poles to two hilly trees the corner, then across the said patent north
			55 degrees east to the river, then up the various courses of the river to the fork and then with the
			westernmost branch of the river to the beginning.

July 6, 1796	Enoch Fulford is born.  He died on Sept. 28, 1824 at age 28 yr 2 mo 22 d.

Aug. Court 1796	John Fulford Esq, returned his list of taxables for the year 1796 for the Straits district.

Feb. Court 1797	On motion of John Fulford, the court ordered the said Fulford as guardian of Joseph Malbone, brother and heir 
			at law to Solomon Malbone decd, to sell and convey such a proportion of the land held by warrant of
			survey no 4447, by the said Joseph Malbone as is usual in such cases and necessary for executing
			the same.

Feb. Court 1797	The court appoints Benjamin Cheney and Asa Bishop to examine the accounts of John Fulford with the
			estates of Lemuel Malbone and James Fulford decd.

Feb. Court 1797	The court appoints Thomas Harris overseer of the road from Stephen Fulfords bridge, including said bridge,
			to Abraham Wades.

May Court 1797	Deed from Micajah Pigott and wife to Uriah Fulford for a right on Carrot Island was proved by said Pigott and 			ordered to be registered.

May Court 1797	The settlement of the estate of James Fulford was returned by the administrator, by which there appears to be
			a balance in the hands of the administrator of 47 pounds 18 shillings and 9 pence.

Oct. 4, 1797	John Fulford was named by Samuel Williston as an executor of his will.

Feb. Court 1798	Stephen Fulford, petitioned the court to be appointed guardian to three of his wife's children to wit: Josiah,
			David, and Gabriel Williston, the orphans of George Williston decd, which was granted and he
			accordingly gave bond with John Fulford and Isiah Davis securities.

Feb. Court 1798	David Wallace and John Fulford qualified as executors to the last will of Robert Nelson decd.

Feb. Court 1798	The will of Samuel Williston was proved by the oath of John Harkill and letters ordered to issue. at the same
			time John Fulford and Daniel Willis qualified to act as executors to the said will.

May Court 1799	John Fulford Esq. last mentioned as justice of the court.

Aug. Court 1799	Abigail Fulford prayed the court for letters of administration on the estate of her late husband John Fulford
			decd, 	and wishes to have her son Joseph Fulford Jr and Elijah Pigot joined with her in the said
			administration and granted. accordingly they qualified and gave bond in the penalty of 4000 pounds
			with Asa Bishop and Benjamin Davis securities. the court also appoints the said Abigail Fulford
			guardian to her four children John, Polly, Abigail and William Martin Fulford. accordingly she gave
			bond in the penalty of 2000 pounds with Joseph Borden and David Ward.
			* said Abigail Fulford prayed the court to have a jury appointed to lay off her dower  in the lands of her
			deceased husband. Accordingly the court directs that the sheriff be ordered to summon a jury of
			twelve freeholders for the said purpose who are to make return thereof to the next court. the said Mrs
			Fulford prayed the court to have commissioners 	appointed to lay off a years provisions for herself
			and family. Accordingly Aden Jones, Esq, Richard Crutch, Francis Bell and Samuel Chadwick are
			appointed for said purpose.  The court also orders an order to issue for selling so much of the
			personal property of the said John Fulford decd, as the administrators shall find necessary.

Nov. Court 1799Elijah Pigot and Joseph Fulford Jr returned an inventory of the estate of John Fulford decd.

Nov. Court 1799A bill of sale from Joseph Fulford Sr to Joseph Fulford Jr for a negro Jude was proved in open court by the
			oath of Asa Bishop and ordered to be registered.

Nov. Court 1799Joseph Fulford Jr prayed the court for letters of administration on the estate of Joseph Fulford decd,
			during the contest about the will of the said deceased, which was granted, and the said Joseph
			accordingly qualified and gave bond in the penalty of two thousand pounds with Micajah Pigot and
			Oliver Chadwick securities.
