1. For those who may not be familiar with it, GenConnect, sponsored by RootsWeb, offers numerous query boards: Country, State, County, Surname, and several "special" boards. A good starting place for doing research on GenConnect is:

World Visitor Center, where you may select the country of your choice. Or, if you choose, you may search the entire world.
Before posting to any of the boards on GenConnect one should visit the Visitor's Center, where you will find hints and tips on using the GenConnect system. A visit to this page is recommended as there are numerous options available on this system.

Forums are the best way to post your queries. Your question remains available for all to see, even newcomers. It is the best place to post answers to the queries of others, for then the answer is there for all to see and the answer can be directly linked to the original query.

There are many, many surname forums on the web. Unfortunately, no one has time to visit each and every one of them. Therefore, it would be nice if we all used the same 2-3 forums such as those above.

2. Sign up for the Chadwick Mailing List. Free. A good way to share Chadwick info with others interested in Chadwick History/Genealogy. All messages to the List are automatically sent to all subscribers to the List. New subscribers will have to search the archives to view previous messages.

To subscribe is easy. Send an email message to the following address:

Put the word SUBSCRIBE in the SUBJECT line. Do NOT put anything else on the subject line and leave the body of the message blank.

You will receive a verification message, and just follow the instructions to verify the request. Then read the welcome message and follow its instructions too.

After you are subscribed and active, you can post messages to the list by addressing them to:

As each subscriber sends messages to the list, you will receive a copy of the message.

2. NCCARTER-D-request@rootsweb.com for a digest of multiple messages.
As each subscriber sends messages to the list, they are put into a digest to be delivered later. The digest is generated approximately once a day and delivered to digest subscribers. This option is handy for people who don't want multiple messages to accumulate in their mail box. However, it becomes more cumbersome to find particular messages since what you receive is one large message each day.

You will receive a verification message, and just follow the instructions to verify the request. Then read the welcome message and follow its instructions too.

3. Sign up for AOL Instant Messenger. Has Chat, File Sharing (with virus protection), Immediate Message exchange. Free. But you have to sign up and instll software to use the system.
